Two separate metering and distribution systems on one universal seed drill provide many potential fields of operation on an arable farm. This applies to the new foldable ESPRO 6000 RC seed drill with combined fertilization option. It is able to deliver fertilizer under root while seeding as well as dose and place a second type of seed.
The fertilizer or second seed variety is delivered by disc coulters behind the working discs and directly in front of the offset packer roller. The coulters, adjustable in depth, are located precisely in-between two seed rows each.
In this way, the fertilizer can be positioned in spot-on distance from the seeds. Thus, the seedlings are optimally supported in their early growth stages without risk of burning. Moreover, two different seeds can be delivered at distinct depths. This proves beneficial for the simultaneous establishment of a main crop with an
undersown crop as well as for seeding cover crop mixes. If needed, the two varieties can be metered separately, but delivered together in the seed row.
The seed/fertilizer hopper is partitioned in two parts. But owing to a clever hatch system, the farmer can use the full hopper capacity of 5,500 litres to seed one single main crop.
The new ESPRO 6000 RC includes all important advantages the ESPRO range is known for:
- a reduced tractor power requirement owing to its specific packer roller design.
- a precise seed placement and even emergence rates also at high speeds ensured by the CROSSFLEX coulter bar.
- a high comfort of use due to simple adjustments, automated headland turn management, user-friendly terminals (VT or CCI 200) and ISOBUS compatibility.
- optional front press wheels for sowing on ploughed land or in light soils.
Ole Jensen, a Danish contractor and one of the first ESPRO 6000 RC users, is satisfied: “It gives you a degree of freedom and certain advantages to also have the fertilizer equipment. For instance this autumn we have been seeding cover crops where you need to seed two types, and in this case we have chosen to seed spring
barley and fodder radish.”
